Central Sydney, Australia

THIS BUSINESS IS PERMANENTLY  CLOSED AS OF SEPTEMBER 2019

There are many people who do dreadlocks in Sydney, but none

of them are from Jamaica.

As a born and bred Jamaican,

I have been locking hair for over 20 years in the authentic way -

the way it is done in Jamaica.

I use a mixture of natural oils, to give moisture to dreadlocks battling the dryness of the Australian climate.

I exercise both efficiency and care in working with your hair.

It was Jamaicans who birthed the word "dreadlocks" and who brought the style into popular culture.

The dreadlocks hairstyle first appeared in Jamaica during post emancipation period of 1960's .

It was a means of defiance for ex-slaves to rebel against Euro-centrism that was forced on them.

The hairstyle was originally referred to as a “dreadful” hairstyle by the Euro-centric Jamaican society.

It later evolved to the term now used: "Dreadlocks"

Jamaicans also use the term Natty Dreadlocks

I have had my dreadlocks for years and was accustomed to getting my locks tightened regularly by a locktichian in Jamaica. I immigrated to Australia in 2011. Once in Sydney, I went around to various dreadlocks hairdressers enquiring about tightening my locks and I was quoted exorbitant prices.

As a new immigrant, I was unable to afford those prices.

So, I decided to learn how to interlock my own hair.

I perfected a routine of alternating between palm-rolling and interlocking techniques which are great for tightly coiled black hair. On straighter hair-types, I learnt how to do the crochet method. I use either the crochet or inter-lock method

depending on the texture of your hair.

I will also share my tips on how to care for your hair in the dry Australian weather. I love seeing my clients leave feeling happy and confident about how they look because their hair is neat and locked well.

Testimonials

"I spent 9 hours getting my hair done, but it was well worth the wait. Lisa-Ann is very lovely, a down to earth women, and incredible at what she does. She takes her time to get the best end result, I couldn’t be happier with my beautiful dreadlocks. Thank you so much!!" Xo Jazz

"Lisa-Ann a very talented woman who has been able to help salvage my son's hair, he had gone to have dreads made in his hair and the technique and products used were all wrong his hair had started to drop and parts were unraveling. Lisa has since fixed the issue to secure the locks and also taught me the correct way to care for his hair i am very great full to her and her time taken to help I would definitely recommend going to her if you are interested in having your hair done." Ayeisha, Levi's Mom
