Good vibes circle around the Royals

The Royals The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are in Sydney and Australia is abuzz.

I can feel it and I love it.

Now, I know that there are two kinds of people in the world. People who love The Royals and people who are annoyed that they even exist.

I was ambivalent until Meghan Markle stepped in. Seeing a biracial woman step into that exclusive white world has been intriguing and wonderful to observe.

Meghan is veritable facelift for the Royal family, making this archaic monarchy something approachable and familiar. It seems like Ms. Markle was born to play this role - poised and resplendent. She is giving the blood royals a run for their money when it comes to a show of grace.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

The news about them being with child and seeing them flit about Australia these past few days have lifted the collective spirit of Australia.

To the people that roll their eyes and swear under their breath anytime I mention Meghan and Harry, my retort is to simply enjoy their entertainment value. To the people who whine about how much money they cost, make and spend to simply just be, to you I ask...

When was the last time you bought music or went to the movies?

Have you ever watched an episode of The Kardashians?

How absurd is the amount of money that musicians, actors make and reality tv stars make?

The Royals play the same purpose and enjoy a similar standard of remuneration.

I love that for a moment, they allow me to be distracted from the tom-foolery of Australian politics, the insanity of the American, the unending pain of the #metoo movement and the sorrow of how we are destroying our planet.

I know all that stuff is out there, happening and real.

But to be able to deal with all that heavy stuff, we need to be able to look away at something shiny, soft and pretty. Which is what Harry and Megan are...A show and tell of delicate love and how far diversity and inclusion has come.

And so what if it does cost money to have them?

Are you or I paying the bill?

Obviously The United Kingdom can afford it - they are the fifth richest country in the world. They remain so after hundreds of years of supporting their monarchy. So I don't think you need to worry about them balancing their checkbook.

Plus they pay it forward with oodles of charity work:

Prince Harry jointly founded Sentebale, a charity to help orphans in Lesotho, southern Africa.

He supports conservation projects that work to protect Africa's natural heritage and support both wildlife and local communities.

He has a foundation that helps train young people as professional sports coaches while they are still in school. And of course, there is The Invictus Games, an international adaptive sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veteran. Which of course, is the main reason I have had the having the pleasure of watching him walk hand in hand with Ms. Markle around the Sydney, Melbourne and Dubbo this week.

All We Need is Love

How hypnotic is it to see a young couple in love?

I swear it makes your blood more alkaline and reduces the risk of heart-disease.

I just melted during this moment of their tour in Dubbo, rural New South Wales. It was pouring rain as Harry was about to speak when the mayor offered him an umbrella. Harry politely said, "It's ok. I have my wife," and in steps Meghan to hold the umbrella over him with one hand and rub his back with the other, all the while looking at him adoringly while he speaks.

Sigh... Swoon.

So all you royal haters out there, take a chill pill.

Let's join hands and make a circle of good vibes around this lovely couple, who is showing this country prone to racism, what it's like to fall in love with a woman of colour.

Your bile is not going to change the fact that they are actually are a big blessing to many.
